The New York Association of Black Journalists is excited to bring back our media awards competition to honor the best and brightest in New York journalism.


We aim to recognize exemplary coverage of people or issues in the African/African American Diaspora. The competition is open to all professional (staff and freelance) journalists in print, broadcast or online news media. Only work originally published or broadcast between January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016 will be eligible for consideration.

Entries are being accepted from now until June 30, 2017.

As always, the gala raises money for the First Take NYC High School Journalism Workshop, an eight-week intensive program that teaches reporting, writing and multimedia skills to area youth.
