On Wednesday night NYABJ held it's 2008 honors event at B Smith's restaurant recognizing the career milestone of seven colleagues.

Sheila Rule left the NY Times after 31 years to start her own publishing company. Resilience Multimedia's first project is called “Think Outside the Cell: An Entrepreneur's Guide for the Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated,” www.thinkoutsidethecell.com Ms. Rule is a longtime NABJ/NYABJ member and supporter who spoke about her transition an how change should not scare people who choose to leave journalism for one reason or another.

Terrie Williams is the recent author of her 4th book. "Black Pain;It Just Looks Like We're Not Hurting" is a look at how depression is dealt with (or not dealt with) in the Black Community. Ms Williams became emotional as she recounted her own personal crisis with depression. Vickie Burns was honored as the new VP for News and Content of NBC-4HD. Tamron Hall and Christina Brown were welcomed as recent arrivals to the national scene as anchors for MSNBC. Josh Eure was recognized for taking a rare African American male management position at ABC as the Coordinating Producer at ABC News Now and Stacey Tisdale who spent many year at CBS News recently penned the book "The True Cost of Happiness" which focuses on overcoming financial stereotypes in the Black community. truecostofhappiness.com

More than a hundred people came out to take part in the event. Other notable appearances included Deputy Mayor of the city of NY Dennis Walcott, VP of News for Comcast Princell Hair, Savoy Magazine Executive Meta Mereday and CBS News Early Show Anchor Russ Mitchell and his wife Karina.
