TITLE:
Graphic Designer
DEPARTMENT: Health
Magazine
DESCRIPTION: Team member of Health
Magazine's Art department.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Generate visual
ideas, plan and assign art and photography,
art direct photo shoots, and design
and produce feature stories, sections,
and department pages.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Additional duties
as needed.
REQUIREMENTS: Three to five years
of magazine design experience. Exceptional
design, typography and assigning
skills. Proven ability to work with
the nation's best photographers
and illustrators. Must be an expert
at Quark, PhotoShop and Illustrator.
A bachelors degree in design or
related field a plus.
TITLE:
Associate Editor
DEPARTMENT: Health
Editorial
PRIMARY DUTIES: Responsible for
planning, assigning, editorially
balancing, and editing stories;
working with staff researchers and
freelance writers. Some writing
required. Also responsible for coordinating
story art and assisting with Health.com.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Additional duties
as needed.
REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate degree
required and at least two years
of publishing experience. Experience
with Word and QuarkXPress needed.
Relocation to Birmingham required.
TITLE: Senior Editor
DEPARTMENT: Health
DESCRIPTION: Strong editor/journalist
for a Senior Editor.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Responsibilities
include story planning, and development,
assigning freelance writers, editing,
writing and some special projects.
REQUIREMENTS: At least five years
of editorial experience, degree
in Journalism, English, or related
field, and relocation to Health's
home base in Birmingham, Alabama.
TITLE:
Assistant Gardens Editor
DEPARTMENT: Southern
Living Editorial
DESCRIPTION: Seek out, create, and
write stories for Southern Living
Gardens, the Southern Living Garden
Guide, and misc. garden stories
and projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Find, research and
write stories about Southern gardens
with an emphasis on design projects
and real homeowner situations. Must
be an active gardener who can share
how-to, homeowner based advice for
all readers.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Find gardens
and projects in field which will
require travel and create projects
in Birmingham.
REQUIREMENTS: Horticulture degree
preferred, English or journalism
degree a plus, but not required.
Design, plant knowledge, and project
experience a plus. Hands-on and
active around own home.
TITLE:
Test Kitchen Professional
DEPARTMENT: Southern
Living Test Kitchen
DESCRIPTION: Test recipes for Southern
Living magazine and other brand
extensions and special projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Shop for food preparation,
accurately test and document reader
and staff-developed recipes, style
food for photography, develop recipes
to fit specific editorial goals,
and attend taste testings daily.
Occasional travel required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: As needed.
REQUIREMENTS: B.S., B.A., culinary
degree, or extensive professional
experience is required. Extensive
understanding of hands-on food preparation
for the home cook is also a must.
Candidates with wedding cake and
pastry experience are encouraged
