Associate Producer for "
Soundcheck" WNYC Radio
WNYC Radio seeks an Associate Producer for "Soundcheck," a new weekday talk show about music and its role in our lives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, initiating, researching and executing segment ideas, working with independent writers and producers, coordinating productions with other departments within the station, working with the Executive Producer of Music Programming, booking interviews and live performances, pre-interviewing and preparing materials for host, editing tape for broadcast on Pro Tools and other related duties as assigned.

Three years relevant experience in radio preferred. Knowledge of classical music a must. Pro Tools and audio recording abilities a plus. Requires excellent writing skills, broad interests, editorial judgement, strong attention to detail and ability to offer leadership under pressure within a tight knit team.

Advertising Director Poets & Writers Magazine
The advertising director plans, directs, and implements the advertising sales strategy for Poets & Writers Magazine and Poets & Writers Online, both produced by Poets & Writers, Inc. the nation's largest nonprofit service organization for creative writers. The advertising director is a senior staff member and supervises a two person team

Responsibilities include:

  • Develops long-term plans and short-term sales strategies
  • Directs all sales efforts
  • Maintains current accounts, researches and prospects new accounts and categories
  • Develops and tracks ad department revenue and expense projections
  • Develops media kit and other promotional materials
  • Works with accounting department to ensure accurate invoicing and to resolve any billing questions or problems
  • Works with managing editor to coordinate ad-related production of the magazine
  • Participates in all senior staff meetings and organizational planning meetings
  • Acts as liaison with vendors and freelancers
  • Oversees the maintenance of the advertising sales and production cycle, including all promotional materials and events; represents Poets & Writers at ad-related events

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years experience as an advertising director or in a senior advertising position; proven track record in ad sales
  • Management experience; experience supervising staff
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work with all types of people in the literary community, as well as with a variety of vendors
  • Experience with budget preparation
  • Able to work well under pressure; excellent decision-maker
  • Able to balance different activities; e.g. sales, promotion, and production
  • Ability to work well with editorial department, circulation consultants, and other P&W staff
  • Familiarity with Spacemaster or comparable advertising database software
  • Experience with digital production/printing technology and with Lotus or other spreadsheet software; experience with QuarkXPress and Adobe Photoshop a plus
  • Familiarity with the literary community, including writing programs, conferences, presses
