Deadline Extended to August 29
NYABJ's 13th annual high school journalism
workshop, one of the chapter's premier programs,
will be held in the fall and the deadline
is fast approaching.
The workshop, which has produced some of
the country's best young journalists, is
held on consecutive Saturdays each year
at the Brooklyn campus of Long Island University.
Each year, students produce an amateur newscast
- "NYABJ Action News" - with the
entire group acting in different capacities
from anchors to field reporters; and a newspaper
- "First Take" - a publication
in which each student produces two articles
and takes photos, and which was sponsored
last year by Black Enterprise magazine and
the university.
Guided by media professionals and potential
mentors, the students improve their writing
and articulation skills as well as news
judgment.
As a bonus, the student who earns the highest
grades on news quizzes will receive a nice
gift, and each week, the student who receives
the highest grade for the day will get one,
too.
Students
will take at least one field trip to a major
news organization and, when the workshop
concludes, receive recognition during a
ceremonial brunch.
Anyone
interested in participating, volunteering
as a mentor or otherwise needing more information
about the annual workhop is urged to please
contact Tischelle
George.
