NYABJ Second Annual Juneteenth Gala

The New York Association of Black Journalists is bringing back it’s time honored tradition of honoring, talented journalists and the work they put out in various categories including: tv, podcasts, radio, content creators, photographers and videographers.

The competition is open to individuals and news organizations based or operating in New York and New Jersey, if individuals are members of NYABJ but working elsewhere due to a Covid-19 pandemic move on behalf of a New York news organizations.

This year’s theme is the importance of telling the Black story, we ask all entrants to share how their entry shares the importance of telling Black stories.

We are now accepting submissions for the 2023 awards, all submissions due by December 31st 2022, 11:59pm est.

Judging will be a board of screenings composed of working journalists, former journalists and academics who are selected for their expertise in each category. Their decisions are final.

Winners receive an engraved trophy and are invited to celebrate with the New York Association of Black Journalists at its annual Juneteenth Gala on June 19th. 2023. Details to come.


How to Apply:
A brief program description of your entry (no more than 750 words)
Credit listing (name, title, no more than 5 names)
A link, downloaded mp4 file, pdf or jpg file (please ensure there is no paywall or you include a password if applicable)


Entry Fee:
Each entry fee is $100.

Checks are accepted by mail. Make checks payable to the NYABJ and mailed to 2214 Frederick Douglas Blvd. #234, NY, NY 10026.


Submission Timeline:
All submissions are due by Dec 31st 11:59pm, est.
Nominees will be via email announced by Feb 28th, and in person during our Black History Month brunch
Winners will be notified by May 1st
Awards will be given out on June 19th
